Support for Quality Education Management

In February 2018, the Pôle de Dakar of the International Institute for Educational Planning (IIEP-Pôle de Dakar) launched a support programme dedicated to strengthening capacities to improve the quality of basic education.

This four-year programme works with all actors whose daily actions impact the quality of education in schools, including the schools themselves, decentralised levels, and central administration.

The programme directly involves six African countries — Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, Madagascar, Niger, Senegal and Togo — and will also reach a broader network of French-speaking countries on the continent.

For more information, see the Concept Note on Quality Management in Basic Education (French Version).

Phase 1 – Diagnosis: understanding in order to improve

The first phase of the programme examines how quality management is handled in each country, based on factors such as learning time, teaching quality, access to resources, and educational inclusivity. The goal of the diagnosis is to create a roadmap that can be shared by all those in charge of quality management to improve their practices.

For more information, consult the Approach for the analysis of quality management and the formulation of a roadmap (French Version).

Phase 2 – Supporting change: promoting relevant, coherent, and effective practives

In an effort to strengthen national capacities, the programme’s second phase involves implementing and supporting actions identified in the roadmap to improve quality management.

Sharing and capitalizing on experiences

Activities will be available for quality-management actors in Africa to share information, network, and capitalize on knowledge and experience throughout the programme. Thematic workshops will also be organized annually to boost knowledge sharing.

The quality-management programme is supported by the IIEP Learning Portal, www.learningportal.iiep.unesco.org, and the Teaching and Learning Educators’ Network for Transformation (TALENT), www.education2030-africa.org.

This IIEP-Pôle de Dakar programme receives financial support from the French Development Agency.
