Workshop for pooling methods used to support education quality management

23 Jan 2020

From 28 to 30 January 2020, IIEP Dakar is organizing a workshop on the methods used by the support programme for education quality management in sub-Saharan African countries.

In February 2018, in partnership with the French Development Agency, IIEP Dakar launched a support programme for basic education quality management. The programme is organized in three phases: 1. Leading a diagnostic process of quality management practices at all levels of the education system; 2. Working with countries in identifying promising actions or practices by giving priority to already existing actions and practices; 3. Supporting the implementation of actions or practices identified through action research.

A methodology for the implementation of the programme has been developed by IIEP-Pôle de Dakar with the support of a group of experts. This methodology is used in four countries (Burkina Faso, Madagascar, Niger and Senegal) which have performed a diagnosis of education quality management practices in their basic education system.

With a view to expanding to other countries, the programme team has drawn up methodological guidelines. The aim of the guidelines is to be a useful tool for countries seeking to analyse education quality management in their systems. In the medium term, it is also expected that these methodological guidelines will serve as a lever for increasing the number of education experts capable of implementing the programme's intervention strategy.

The purpose of the workshop is to gather opinions, comments and observations of participants with a view to improving and finalizing the methodological guidelines. More specifically, it will involve:
- Presenting the intervention methodology of the quality management support programme in its current form,
- Hearing from the national research teams that implemented the methodology,
- Identifying aspects of the methodology that pose major implementation challenges,
- Fostering dialogue between participants in order to come up with suggested improvements to the methodology.

The workshop will take place over three days at the Fleur de Lys Hotel – Route des Almadies in Dakar – from Tuesday 28 to Thursday 30 January. It will bring together some thirty international experts and national executives who participated in the first phase of the programme.
